How to Get Free Full .EDU Articles and Backlinks from MediaWiki Sites

Everyone wants .EDU backlinks and, even better than that, .EDU articles with contextual anchor text backlinks. The easiest platform to get a ton of these powerful authority articles with links is the MediaWiki wiki platform. This post will guide you through how to find these sites, create accounts and post articles on them.

The first thing that you need to know, obviously, is how to locate .EDU MediaWikis that are open to public account creation, the easiest way to do this is to use advanced Google search queries which we will cover here:

To locate MediaWiki sites my favorite search string is (remember this is for Google Search):

powered by mediawiki inurl:index.php?

Now, this will yield hundreds of thousands of sites running the MediaWiki platform and although you can find .EDUs in there it is best to narrow it down to just .EDU sites by adding the appropriate variable to your search query:

Copy and paste that into your Google search box and you will get a ton of .EDU MediaWiki sites. However, you’ll notice that probably about 85% of these don’t accept public registration to stop you from posting your promotional articles. To speed up the process and avoid having to view all of these we will now go ahead and search for articles that were obviously put up by someone else doing some SEO work. To do this we’ll add a term that we know to be maybe spam or a very popular keyword/key phrase; some examples include buy generic viagra or perhaps payday loan; play with different ones to find different articles and thus more .EDU sites which are running the MediaWiki platform. Here is what a final search term that will yield you sites ready to go may look like:

Now you need to create an account, navigate to your user page (do this to avoid deletion, you get a special page made for you for your article. Editing other pages for your article will result in your article being removed more often than not) and post up your article with backlink(s). A little hint is to use your keywords (no spaces allowed) as your account name as it is used both as page title and for the meta title tag for this as well as in the URL of your new article’s freshly created page. Also note that you must use a format called Wiki Markup to add any custom formatting, including backlinks (the format for backlinks is [http://www.site.com anchor text] if that’s all you want to use).

Again these are not all auto approved so it is important that you add your comment appropriately. This means that you don’t just spam your link in the comment box and you leave a relevant comment. The best, and most efficient, manner of doing this is as follows:

Name: Use your name here, on auto approved blogs you can use this as anchor text but if you want to get approved use a real sounding name (first and last)

URL/Website: This is where you put your website (full thing including http://), you will be seen as spam if you put it anywhere else so put it here!

E-mail: The best practice for this is to put the first letter of the first name you used for name followed by the last name and put @xxxx.edu where the xxxx is the domain that you are posting the comment on; this will make it look like you’re a student at that school and is the format that most universities use (they don’t validate e-mails so it is fine that it does not exist).

Comment: Put a relevant comment here, another trick to make this go as fast as possible is to just read a comment that is already there and on topic and quickly respond to it, this way you don’t have to read the whole blog post.
